Waterloo and City Home Contextual Statement Media Biography Contact WATERLOO AND CITY [PRIVATE THOUGHTS IN PUBLIC SPACES] WATERLOO AND CITY [PRIVATE THOUGHTS IN PUBLIC SPACES] WATERLOO AND CITY [PRIVATE THOUGHTS IN PUBLIC SPACES] INTRODUCTION Waterloo and City [ Private Thoughts in Public Spaces ] tells a story of recollections evoked by places and buildings; of walking through a city and journeying across time. The Artist proposes that place is often the primary locus of our memories and observes the volatile and unexpected ways in which we recall places we have left. She considers our use of and response to public spaces and explores the notion that corporate buildings and their carefully masked power structures exert control over us. Originally shown as an installation, Waterloo and City [ Private Thoughts in Public Spaces ] comprises a series of four artist’s books accompanied by immersive sound from field recordings overlaid with voice narration by the Artist.
